Glass

Sheet glass is commonly used as a transparent glazing medium, primarily as windows on the exterior walls of buildings. Float or rolled sheet glass products are cut to size either by marking and snapping the material, laser cutting, water jets or diamond bladed saw. Glass may be thermally or chemically tempered (strengthened) for protection and curved or bent by heating. Surface coatings may be applied for specific functions such as scratch resistance, blocking of specific light wavelengths (e.g. infrared or ultraviolet), dirt-repellent (e.g. self-cleaning glass) or switchable electrochromic coatings.
